Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport sits about fifteen minutes east of the villa, which makes arriving here refreshingly simple. Here is what to expect, and the one decision worth making before you fly.
Arriving
Flights from the mainland United States are domestic, so there is no customs hall and no immigration queue. You land, collect your bag and walk out. Allow a little longer if you are connecting from outside the US, but for most guests the airport is a twenty-minute experience.
Getting to Condado
- Taxi — there is an official stand outside baggage claim, with fixed zone rates to Condado. Simple, metered by zone rather than by traffic, and the easiest option late at night.
- Rideshare — Uber operates at SJU and is usually a little cheaper. Follow the signs to the designated pickup area rather than waiting at the curb.
- Private transfer — worth it if you are arriving as a group with luggage, or landing after a long day. Ask Michael and he can point you to trusted operators.
Whichever you choose, it is a fifteen to twenty minute drive outside of rush hour.
Do you need a rental car?
Probably not, and this surprises people. The villa is half a block from Condado Beach, with restaurants and shops within walking distance, and Old San Juan is a short ride away. A car sits unused for most of a beach-focused week, and parking in Condado is tight.
The exception is if you are planning day trips. El Yunque, Fajardo and the east coast are much easier with your own vehicle. A sensible middle path that many guests take is to skip the car for the first few days, then rent one for the two or three days you actually want to explore. The villa has parking available when you do.
A note on driving here
Road signs are in Spanish, distances are posted in kilometers but speeds in miles per hour, and San Juan traffic at rush hour is slow. None of it is difficult, but give yourself more time than the map suggests.
